Even with fast food, nutrition is important. That’s what we discovered when we analyzed the spike in traffic to wendys.com every day at lunch time. We used this insight to proactively recommend building an app experience with nutrition as the focus. Our solution emphasized calories, recommending healthy meal combinations. Later versions added the ability to pay using the app, a first of its kind in fast food, beating McDonald’s, Burger King, and others to mobile payment.
The app surpassed 500k downloads in the first 6 months, with more than 20% of users creating and saving a meal. The app also won a Gold Medal Hub Prize.
A Calorie Bar lets the user set their calorie limit, with the app recommending meals that at or below that limit. Nutritional information is available for every item.
The app allowed users to fully customize their meals, seeing the calories adjust in real time. After customizing the perfect meal, users can save it to their favorites.
